Our Ministries

Ministry. What exactly is ministry and what are ministries? It is a word that we hear a lot while in the "Baptist church circles" but what does ministry really mean? Well, I am glad you asked! Let us start by excluding some things that are not "ministry". First off, programs and curriculum is not ministry. Neither are activities and meetings ministry. So if those commonly thought of things are not ministry, then what is considered ministry? Ministry is a conscious decision that each Christian must make to apply biblical truths that they have read and/or heard about to everybody they meet and every situation they encounter. So ministry can literally be hundreds if not thousands of different things!

With that understanding, Fern Hill Baptist Church provides many structured programs, activities, and meetings that allow qualified teachers and volunteers to be able to instruct, train, and mentor students. At Fern Hill Baptist Church we are focused on only one thing. That one thing is having a church that is totally rooted and planted on the Bible. If we fail to teach and preach the Bible, the very words of God, yet we have the best-organized children's programs and the nicest planned Sunday school classes did we do any eternal good? No. Every program and activity must be centered on the Bible, because that is the only thing that has eternal meaning! We echo the reformation call "Sola Scriptura!" by Scripture alone.

As Christians we are all given the ministry of soul winning via the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). As a traditional Southern-style church that focuses on winning souls for Jesus Christ all of the ministries at Fern Hill are centered on the Word of God. Everything we do, whether it is for the young and young at heart, is anchored by this one requirement.

Pastor Stroud had just two rules and they are: #1 The children will be taught the Word of God at an age appropriate level. #2 Children's Church will not be a "play time" but rather a scaled version of ... more
